Our resident musicians have been busy this summer!
Liz Stefan is currently in Graz, Austria performing with the AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) festival orchestra. She's there for six weeks playing major orchestral works, as well as accompanying young singers as they learn arias from a vast array of operatic works. During her time off, she is able to travel and will spend time in Budapest, Prague, and Vienna!
Joshua Addison spent several weeks as a member of the orchestra at the Castleton Festival in Virginia, where he took part in productions of operas by Mozart and Puccini, performed in a variety of symphonic concerts, and worked alongside legendary musicians such as Denyce Graves, Sir James Galway and Maestro Lorin Maazel. In a few weeks, he will premiere a new chamber work by clarinetist/composer Eric Thomas at the Sonad Glen Brook Workshop in New Hampshire.
Laura Messina just returned from a trip to France, where she had the opportunity to see some amazing sights and immerse herself in a new culture for a bit. Since she got back, she has been teaching some private cello lessons and started rehearsing with the Mercury Orchestra in Cambridge for a concert in mid-August.
Jason Amos has spent the bulk of his time this summer helping his real estate clients purchase their dream homes. He has also been fortunate enough to catch up with many old friends by hosting chamber music parties.
Cora Swenson Lee has spent her summer working on a variety of musical projects. She recently performed a quintet version of Haydn Symphony 104 and the Rossini Duo for cello and bass on baroque cello at the Monadnock Music Festival, and was also in Chicago recording an album of original jazz music for flute, cello, guitar and bass, written by her father, Peter Swenson. Cora is also on the faculty of the Youth and Muse chamber music festival held in downtown Boston.
Karl Orvik spent the first part of his summer teaching at Point Counterpoint, a chamber music camp in Vermont which he had attended as a teenager. He had a wonderful time, and the experience was made uniquely rewarding because his son, Caleb, also attended the camp as a cello student! Returning to Boston, Karl spent some time coaching chamber groups at Community Music Center of Boston's annual SummerMUSIC camp, and in August will be teaching at the Youth and Muse festival, taking place at the Boston Conservatory.
Betsy Hinkle has enjoyed a relaxing, but busy summer, spending time with her daughter and cooking with fresh vegetables from her garden. She has, of course, been practicing, and working diligently to get musiConnects ready for the fall, including hiring teachers, improving internal operations, and organizing our office and rehearsal space in Roslindale.
