Chamber music in rehearsal, performance, teaching and administration

Boston Public Quartet

Established in 2007, the Boston Public Quartet (BPQ) serves as the resident ensemble and directing team of the non-profit organization musiConnects. You may hear the BPQ in a variety of venues - in a traditional concert hall, a cafe, a home, a rehabilitation clinic, a community center, a place of worship, or in a library.  Most often you will find them inspiring young musicians at the Chittick and Sumner Elementary Schools, where they work to provide free string instruments and holistic, long-term musical instruction to a growing number of students.

The BPQ is driven by three convictions:

1. A string quartet's mission is to explore a wide range of perspectives, address complex challenges, and create new possibilities - in music and in everyday life.

2. Music education and live music are a right for all, not a privilege for a few.

3. As a core part of a music curriculum, chamber music offers students unique opportunities for development in the areas of leadership, collaboration, and communication.

the string quartet

We believe a string quartet, at its best, is strongly rooted in the principles of positivity, empathy, flexibility and shared purpose.

In this setting, the four players function as a model community whose work explores a vast range of ideas, emotions, and interactions that mirror the topography of human experience.

"...when I’m in a chamber music group that is constantly balancing the acts of listening and giving, supporting and demanding, analyzing and creating, imagining and maneuvering; my senses, my intellect, my body, my character, and my soul feel stretched to new limits."
