"together... to meet and communicate around a shared language"
music connects
The name "musiConnects" reflects the Boston Public Quartet's belief that community is a tangible and valuable relationship, or connection, that is formed between people who share a common goal. The common goal of the musiConnects community is to bring together people from a variety of backgrounds to meet and communicate around a shared language of music. Doing so empowers individuals within a community and offers movement across perceived social barriers.
inclusivityThere are connections forged between those children who excel in classwork with those who find classwork to be an insurmountable challenge. There are interactions between musicians whose families speak different languages at home. There are teenagers from New Hampshire and Maine who visit Mattapan regularly for musical meetings with elementary school students. There are audiences of music lovers and newcomers to classical music. There is our amazing, diverse team of volunteers, advisers, and financial supporters who believe that music education should be available to all children, not just to those whose families can afford it. There is a network of teachers, principals, family members, and specialists who make music happen by providing enthusiasm, information, space, and time. Through music, these relationships intertwine, deepen and make other relationships possible.
