A Message from Our Director: “Now more than ever”
In the midst of this ever-evolving global pandemic, I’d like to take a minute to brag about our outstanding staff of musicians. As you may have heard, necessity is the mother of invention. The six hardworking Resident Musician at musiConnects have jumped in and nimbly created solutions to fill the void faced by Mattapan youth and families left by school and program closures. Without their continued dedication and compassion, so much musical and personal developmental progress would be lost. Donating to this appeal will help us maintain our current staffing levels as we strive to fulfill our important mission at a time when it is needed most.
One of our greatest strengths as a small organization is our agility. Even before it became no longer possible to teach and mentor our students in schools, our studio, or community centers, the musiConnects team turned a cancelled student recital into a fun, week-long streaming project. Since that time the whole community has been consistently wowed by their creativity – setting up remote individual lessons, compiling rhythm, note reading and dynamics worksheets, posting interactive games and even recording a performance piece from six different locations.
As a passionate team, Betsy, David, Francesca, Josh, Liz and Rachel have been focused on maintaining meaningful engagement with both our musiConnects students and their families. Could they have taken a break when programming was cancelled? Yes, but right now there is too much at stake. As many of the families we serve grapple with balancing jobs, children no longer fed at school and income losses, it is essential that we maintain a program that has been providing young people with an outlet for expression and a safe infrastructure for building confidence.
Your gift to musiConnects is not just supporting an effort to return to normalcy – rather it allows our musicians to continue to ensure that our students maintain great musical progress and continue to benefit from life changing mentor relationships. At the same time, your donation helps to keep six skilled and committed musicians on staff in an economy of cancelled performances and side projects.
I would like to thank you wholeheartedly for digging into your pockets for us at a time when there are many pressing needs. We believe music is essential in challenging times such as this, and we know you share this perspective.
Plus, we have so much more to accomplish!
