Instrument Loans
musiConnects rents violins, violas, and cellos from Johnson String Instrument and loans them to Residency Program students for use in programming, primarily at our partner sites in Mattapan. It is very important to take care of the string instrument that you've been loaned. Here are a few basic guidelines:
- Store the instrument and case in a safe and temperature-controlled environment.
- DO NOT leave the instrument in a car. Our insurance does not cover any damage or theft that occurs when the instrument is left in a vehicle. Any repair/replacement costs will be the responsibility of the family.
- DO NOT transport the instrument without a case.
- Loosen the bow when putting the instrument away.
- DO NOT allow anyone other than the student to play the instrument.
- DO NOT tune the instrument at home unless directed to do so by a musiConnects teacher.
- Contact a musiConnects teacher if something happens to the instrument. DO NOT try to fix any part of the instrument on your own.

Help!
My instrument / my child's instrument needs repair.
For issues like these, call your private teacher!
Many students have their teacher's permission to tune independently. This works best with a battery powered chromatic tuner, or with a tuning app like insTuner (iOS) or GuitarTuna (web/iOS/Android).
I don't know what to practice!
Every musiConnects teacher sends students home with assignments for daily practice. Some teachers use paper "practice sheets" or notebooks. Others use Google Classroom or Google Drive to help their students stay organized. Ask your child's private teacher where to find their assignments, and check after each week's lesson.
