Part-time Resident Musician (cello)
musiConnects seeks a part-time cellist to join its team of dedicated Resident Musicians, who perform in a community-focused chamber music series and teach in an innovative educational residency. This position begins on September 1, 2021.
Boston-based musiConnects, founded in 2007, exists to “model and teach self-expression, peer leadership and community development through the transformative power of chamber music.” musiConnects encompasses two thriving educational initiatives -- the Residency Program, offered in partnership with schools & community centers in Mattapan; and the Roslindale Community Program, based at the musiConnects studio in Roslindale Village -- and a full season of accessible liveperformances featuring our staff of Resident Musicians.
OUR RESIDENT MUSICIANS
Our committed Resident Musicians teach private lessons and chamber music in our Mattapan-based Residency Program. This program emphasizes the development of extra-musical skills such as teamwork, confidence, collaborative problem-solving, and community building, while simultaneously centering musical accomplishment and joy in progress. There is additional earning opportunity in our Roslindale Community Program (sliding scale private lessons). The Resident Musician staff - in rotating configurations - prepare chamber music repertoire at a high level, which is then presented in free, accessible live performances throughout the neighborhoods served, including Mattapan, Roslindale, Dorchester, and surrounding areas of Boston.
Each Resident Musician at musiConnects plays a valuable part in ensuring the success of the education program, performances and the general operations of the organization. As such, the Resident Musician’s hourly commitment (approx. 12hrs per week) involves a mix of teaching, rehearsing, performing, and planning responsibilities; along with a share of administrative duties based on interest and skills (in areas such as: marketing, development, instrument management, curriculum design, studio maintenance, et al.).
Education/Teaching (approx. 6-8hrs/week, including planning)
Performance (approx. 2-3hrs/week)
Administration (approx. 2-3hrs/week)
Additional Opportunity: Roslindale Community Program (scalable based on candidate interest)
