Frequently Asked Questions

I still need to pay my $20 enrollment fee (Residency Program) or my Fall tuition bill (Roslindale Community Program) - how can I do that?
  • Two ways! 1) Use our PayPal portal (or click "Donate" at the bottom of this page) or 2) mail a check made out to "musiConnects" to our Roslindale studio (20 Belgrade Ave, Roslindale, MA 02131).
What are these group classes?
  • These group classes build on the success of our Summer Session, bringing together students of similar age/level to in order to build technical skills and reinforce the learning happening in private lessons. It's also a great chance for mC students to see their old friends and make new ones! These classes intentionally include students from different programs (Residency Program and Roslindale Community Program), schools (BPS, KIPP, SJP, etc.), and neighborhoods (Mattapan, Roslindale, Hyde Park, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, Milton). Group classes run on Zoom. When the weather permits, the instructor might suggest an optional, socially-distanced event in a park or other public place.
What is the Thursday All-Play?
  • Thursday's "All-Play" is a drop-in workshop open to all musiConnects students, regardless of age or level. It borrows ideas from last year's Harmony Strings ensemble and the Summer Session, creating a fun, musical workout that reinforces skills learned in private lessons. Attendance is encouraged for all musiConnects students, but not required.
I want in-person private lessons for my child - how will that be arranged?
  • Private teachers have been notified of which students marked interest for in-person private lessons ("yes" or "maybe") on their Registration Forms. In-person lessons will be arranged at the discretion of the private teacher & parent/guardian, with the approval of the Program Director. Most students who requested in-person lessons will end up with a monthly or bi-weekly in-person "check-in." The remaining lessons will take place online.
My in-person lesson is confirmed - what should I expect?
  • In-person lessons will take place at our Roslindale studio. The address is 20 Belgrade Ave, and musiConnects’ offices are on the second floor (Suites 1-3). To enter the building, use the keycode (sent by your private teacher). Our safety rules are outlined in the Community Agreements. In addition:
    • All participants (students, teachers, parents/guardians) must wear masks at all times when inside the building.
    • All participants must maintain a social distance of approx. 6 ft. Teachers and students will remain on opposite sides of the plexiglass partition.
    • All doors and windows will remain open (weather permitting), in order to maintain good ventilation. We are fortunate to have many large windows at our Roslindale studio, so the place is easily kept breezy and ventilated!
    • On cold days (when windows are closed), HEPA purifiers will run.
    • In order to maintain distance and enable increased cleaning, in-person lessons will be spaced out by at least 15 minutes.
    • Our teaching studios are reachable by separate entrances, so two teachers may conduct in-person lessons simultaneously when necessary.
I have a question about my child's enrollment - who do I contact?
  • Email or text/call our Program Director, David.

Tips & Tricks for music @ home

Tuning 101
Our friends at the Josiah Quincy Orchestra Program made a great video explaining how to tune string instruments. Calling your child's teacher is always the first step for any instrument tuning/repair questions, but this video is a great resource to have on hand!
How Do I Practice?!?!
A few years ago, the musiConnects teachers filmed a video to help students solve the mystery of at-home-practice. Check it out for some ideas! Bonus points if you can figure out the owner of the mystery hand...!

Hall of Fame

These students recently completed their "Belt Showcase," moving up to a new level in our graded curriculum! Congratulations & bravi tutti!!
