Resident Musician (Cello)
September 2018 — June 2019


musiConnects seeks a cellist to join its team of dedicated Resident Musicians to perform in its annual series of chamber music concerts and teach in its after-school education and mentoring programs. This is a 10-month position with the possibility of continuing.

Responsibilities
  • Rehearse and perform chamber music (10-15 concerts/year)
  • Teach approximately 12 cello students (6 hours/week)
  • Actively participate in 4-5 student performances
  • Attend regular staff meetings (bi-weekly)
  • Participate in related administrative and planning activities (as assigned)

Qualifications
  • Chamber music experience and passion for this art form
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort working in a collaborative environment
  • Self-motivated, well organized and energetic
  • Ability to communicate and connect with diverse constituencies, including children and families with different cultural traditions and expectations
  • Enthusiasm for community-based work
  • Commitment to participating in building community through innovative and non-traditional approaches to music performance and education
  • Passion for working with children, especially beginning students
  • Bachelor's degree (Master’s degree preferred) in performance, education or equivalent work experience
Schedule: Part-time weekly responsibilities, closely following the academic year at an average of 10 hours/week.  Attendance required at occasional evening and weekend events. Access to your own vehicle is highly desirable, as not all locations are easily accessible by public transportation.

Salary: $8,000-$10,000, depending on total hours, and does not include benefits.  There is an opportunity to earn additional compensation with private teaching in our Roslindale studio.
