Season 18 || 2024-25

At its core, musiConnects is about holding space for the art of string playing - the daily rhythms of practice; the long-term personal growth fostered by the collaboration of teacher and student; and the vulnerability of performance - in Roslindale, Mattapan, and surrounding neighborhoods of Boston. Every participant contributes to this space - from the youngest beginner first putting bow to string in Twinkle, Twinkle, to a quartet of Resident Musician teaching artists presenting a musical project in recital. Together, these musicians - of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels - will build Season 18, a celebration of string artistry in its many forms. On stages and street corners, in community gathering spaces and concert-focused recital halls, we'll explore centuries of music, join forces with remarkable guest artists, and - as always - hold space for celebration. See you soon.

 "Dare We Imagine"

This video clip is from the world premiere of "Dare We Imagine" by Dina Shilleh, commissioned by musiConnects, and performed by the mC faculty quartet in May 2024.

Come hear all of this stunning piece performed by Great Hill Quartet (our newly named faculty quartet) on Saturday Nov. 9, 3pm at the Mattapan BPL.

Dina Shilleh is a Serbian-Palestinian musician, with a Bachelor and Masters Degree in piano performance (Lawrence University and University of Massachusetts - Amherst). You can learn more about her and her work at http://dinashilleh.com/. She wrote this beautiful poem to be read before performances of "Dare We Imagine":

The pendulum swings incessantly, a relentless rhythm of trauma.
The unsettling clock, anxious in its turns, ticks away moments we cannot erase.
The fire, suffocated, grows until it can no longer bear the rising heat.
It explodes in a burst of flames, consuming all in its path, leaving only…?
Sadness veiled in denial, moves forward, simply to keep on.
Covering the wounds with hope and imagination.
Hearing the voices that echo beyond the tomb.
It dances a welcome for those who can never return.
Dreaming of a day when scars fade and new life begins.
