Our nurturing, student-centered curriculum emphasizes long-term mentorship; skill building on string instruments; and the development of transferable, extra-musical qualities such as patience, resilience, confidence, and self-expression. musiConnects' initiatives - the Residency Program and Roslindale Community Program - center 1:1 private lessons and small group classes that impart our core chamber music values: collaboration, community, and commitment. Our musiConnects students take part in a range of activities complementing their private lessons: concert celebrations, solo recitals, Showcase performances, All-Play experiences, guest artist workshops, and more. All musiConnects students are connected with affordable, high-quality instruments, and many take part in additional enrichment opportunities, including local youth orchestras, summer programs, and mC², our teen leadership group.
Residency Programs take place at community centers and schools in Mattapan. This program engages local students - who represent a diverse cross-section of the communities we serve - at no cost beyond a nominal $20 registration fee. All students in our Residency Programs receive the use of an instrument, private lessons, and additional enrichment opportunities such as group classes, All-Play experiences, or mC². Participants can find up-to-date schedules, resources, and program announcements on our Current Students page. In 2021-22, Residency Programming at musiConnects' Roslindale studio, and at partner sites such as: Our Roslindale Community Program is based at the musiConnects studio in Roslindale Village. Students in this program sign up for private lessons at an affordable, sliding scale rate, and are invited to join Residency Program peers - at no extra cost - for opportunities like group classes, All-Play workshops, or mC². RCP students are asked to provide their own instrument - typically rented from Johnson String Instrument - whenever possible. |
